Nina Brooke is a UK-based artist who paints aerial perspectives of the worlds most beautiful places. Her tropical beach scenes capture a heady mix of surf culture in Cornwall, Sri Lanka, Australia, Hawaii and beyond. These are paintings of wanderlust and adventure.
Nina Brooke is an artist, surfer and traveler. Her jewel-like paintings of the sea, beaches and shorelines capture a unique aerial perspective of the world’s most picturesque places. These vibrant birds-eye-views evoke memories of being by the ocean and they create a focal point in any interior. Architects, designers and collectors from all over the world are enjoying these colourful scenes - from Cornwall to the Caribbean via Sri Lanka, France, Ibiza, Australia and the USA.
Nina grew up between the rugged North Cornwall coast and the azure tropics of The Caribbean. From both sides of the Atlantic, the rolling swell and crystal-clear bays have played a vital role in her creative development. From her studio in Rock, Cornwall, you can practically hear the waves breaking and the scent of the sea filters into each colourful canvas.
“This is where I have been painting for the past 8 years, developing my style as an artist. This space is for experimenting and recreating subjects of interest, predominantly the majestic sea, as seen from above. I am drawn the watery depths and the mysterious colours. The inky blues and sparkling greens are forever changing and they represent a constant creative adventure. I use different mediums like oil, acrylic and watercolour mixed with various textures to keep my work fresh. My favourite point of view is an aerial perspective, and I have been working on a series of paintings based on a bird's eye view of some of the worlds most beautiful places.” Nina Brooke, 2017
When she’s not in Cornwall, Nina works from her studio in West London, recharging her creative energy, visiting new clients and seeing the best exhibitions in town. The combination of city and coastal living undoubtedly adds to the vibrancy of her paintings, adding a jolt of energy to each work.
“I am lucky to have a studio in London and a studio in Cornwall. I love both spaces and I get a very different energy from being in each location. London is the most wonderful city, and I love spending time in the thick of it, visiting galleries, seeing friends and spending long nights working on new paintings, with the buzz of the city around me. It’s also a great place to meet new people and show my work in new spaces. My studio in Cornwall is a very different experience. It’s located in a quite corner of the North Coast, a short walk from the sea and cliff paths. There are a few artists in the area, and a great community of supportive friends and small businesses, so there are always plenty of visitors and opportunities to show people what i’ve been working on. My studio in Cornwall gives me space to breath in the energy of the surrounding sea and landscape, whilst thinking about new projects.”
Nina Brooke, from an interview with CREATE Magazine, 2018
Nina was a keen artist at school and soon after her A Levels she was invited to show at a gallery in Cork St, London alongside two contemporary art luminaries (and fellow Brynaston School alumni) : Lucien Freud and Howard Hodgkin. This early introduction into the high end of the art world encouraged Nina to pursue her talents further and her studies led her to Oxford Brookes and Falmouth Art School, where she started refining her style and appreciation for capturing the sea in paint. Nina also attended courses at the respected Newlyn Art School and was trained by some of Cornwall’s finest professional artists in the art of gesture, colour and textural abstraction.
Forthcoming creative projects include : a return trip to Sri Lanka, art residencies and surf trips to exotic locations, brand collaborations, special commissions and much more …
