Jamaica Inn | An intimate Jamaican Resort

Nestled just east of Ocho Rios within a secluded, sandy cove, is the family-owned luxury hotel: Jamaica Inn.

The Morrow family has owned Jamaica Inn for over 60 years, mastering the art of combining discreet privacy with heartfelt personalised service. Spread over eight acres, with a 700-foot private white sand beach considered to be one of the best in the Caribbean, Jamaica Inn has been a firm favourite amongst a sophisticated set ever since Marilyn Monroe and Arthur Miller chose to honeymoon there in 1957.

The 55 finely furnished suites, cottages and beachfront villas lie within enchanting tropical grounds and showcase uninterrupted views of the Caribbean Sea. The jewel in the crown are the seven luxury cottages set on their own peninsula featuring private plunge pools, outdoor showers and direct access to the ocean. A weekly programme of activities include rosé and croquet on the lawn, yoga at the ocean pavilion, a spa foraging experience and non-motorised water sports. Dining at Jamaica Inn is an elegant affair, enjoyed alfresco on the terrace or at the new Teddy’s Grill on the beach, with a daily changing menu and live music.

Guests are also invited to experience the healing touch of nature at the Ocean Spa, set within the cliffs of Cutlass Bay, with treatments drawn from plants on the Island.

One of the paintings from my Jamaica Inn collection will be donated to the White River Fish Sanctuary

Jamaica Inn has a long standing partnership with The White River Fish Sanctuary which consists of local fishermen, hotel owners and local businesses. Together, they are on a mission to restore the pristine beauty of the Caribbean reefs, to facilitate new coral growth and encourage the return of tropical fish.

Jamaica Inn is on a mission to help restore the pristine beauty of the Caribbean reefs and has partnered with the White River Fish Sanctuary. The White River Fish Sanctuary’s efforts have dramatically increased the growth of coral and encouraged the return of tropical fish to the Caribbean Sea. Since the birth of the Sanctuary over five years ago, Jamaica Inn has facilitated the planting of coral nurseries surrounding their secluded bay and beyond. The hotel’s involvement started with a core group of five fishermen whose lives were greatly affected by the dramatic decrease in the population of fish. The men quickly recognised the urgency of rescuing the reefs, formed an alliance and created the Sanctuary.

The Sanctuary employs fishermen to patrol the waters, enforce the no fishing zone and encourage other fishermen to adhere to the limits which have been negotiated to ensure the sea’s fish are protected. Importantly, the men also protect the fish sanctuary area and coral gardens, which allow immature fish and coral to grow and reach reproductive age without being caught.

From working with the core five fishermen, Jamaica Inn recognised the importance of community involvement and the Sanctuary now employs more fishermen as sanctuary wardens. These wardens have been trained and authorised by the Government of Jamaica to protect the demarcated area. Moreover, some wardens have been SCUBA certified and trained as coral gardeners. The coral gardeners delicately plant coral within the protected area and monitor its growth.
